One Of Those Days

Maybe God was punishing me last Friday. It wasn’t Friday the 13th. At least not on any calendars with which I’m familiar. And I don’t think I’ve offended any witch doctors or voodoo queens. Sometimes I think that when I have extra cash, my house or my car can smell it. Still that doesn’t explain everything that went south.

It's not my job.

As an entrepreneur I learned to hate these words. But I never thought I’d hear them in my home from my kids. Yet my son said this the other day when asked to do something. Apparently what I asked him to do was something his sister usually does ergo it wasn’t his job.

Weaning and Whining

People can give new meanings to words. Weaning is usually used to describe the process of convincing a baby to give up breast feeding. But being a father and an observer of human behaviors has led me to the conclusion that weaning is a life long process. I’m not suggesting that it takes a lifetime to give up suckling a breast, and many men never do. I am suggesting that “giving up” is a process that continues throughout growth and development. In fact, you could say that we are ultimately weaned from the tit of life itself.

Political Issues

Once every couple of years people get to talking about the “hot” political issues. Seems like the fact of an upcoming election gets everybody worked up. Or does it?

I can’t be the only person who has noticed that the issues that get brought up every time an election is near are distractions, detritus, and pure horse shit.

Munich

I know this is terribly late. And I should have seen this movie when it came out like the rest of the movie dweebs. But here’s my review of Speilberg’s Munich.

New Worries for the U.S.

I was thinking the other day about the level of paranoia in U.S. society. People living here might actually be used to it, but you really notice it when you live abroad. I lived in Spain for five years and never felt so calm and relaxed.

Time Changes

It occurred to me after wandering around my house changing all the clocks that maybe the bewitching hour should be updated for the new millennium. In my home there is only one clock left with hands that point straight up at midnight. Maybe the old stories should be changed for the new clocks. Maybe Cinderella’s carriage should turn into a pumpkin at the time 12:34.

Your call is very important to us…

Whenever I hear that message I often come to the same conclusion. If my call really was important then they would increase their service staff so I could speak to a human being right away. Instead you wait. You wait while your children fight. You wait while someone rings the doorbell. You wait all the way through an episode of some program you’d never watch on TV except for the fact that you are sitting around waiting.
